Chiropractor in Hurst TX Explains 3
Ways to Help Sciatica and Back Pain
If you're struggling with sciatica and back pain, I'm so glad you've made it here and I encourage you to give this blog post your full attention. Hi, I'm Dr. Curtis Begin, a chiropractor practicing in Hurst TX.
Over the past 8 years, I've been fortunate to have successfully treated hundreds of patients who, like you, were struggling with sciatica and back pain. I'd like to share 3 simple but very powerful tips for you right now that can help you heal the root cause of this condition.
Right now, you're likely struggling with lower back pain, sharp pains in the back of the leg, shooting hip or thigh pain, and muscle spasms. It's likely the case that these issues are greatly undermining your quality of life. Maybe your marriage is suffering… or you just don't have the energy or desire to perform at a high level in your job. Maybe your self-esteem has been damaged.
You see, ALL of these symptoms - the pain, stiffness, and spasm are byproducts of a deeper core issue… and this is what we need to address. The core issue of this condition is often a spinal misalignment putting pressure on a nerve. Until this gets resolved, every other approach will do nothing more than put a bandage over your symptoms.
First Tip in Hurst TX
Alright, here's my first tip for you:
Many patients find relief by using inexpensive heating pads set on a low or medium setting for 15-20 minutes. You can do this several times a day, about every two or three hours.
There are two different types of heating pads: moist heat vs. dry heat. I recommend using moist heat. Moist heat is better as it offers deeper muscle penetration, faster relief of pain and longer-term pain relief. It also does not dry out the skin.
Some heating pads require the use of water while others do not. I personally am not a fan of mixing water and electricity so I recommend heating pads that use the humidity in the air to create moisture. The BodyMed Moist Heating Pad is one example. This particular heating pad can be purchased on Amazon for around $60 and is what I have used in a clinical setting.
For a less expensive option, moist heating pads for home use can also be found at Walmart and neighborhood drug stores like Walgreens and CVS. They are typically in the $20 range. Be sure it says moist heating pad on the packaging and follow the enclosed instructions on proper use.
Second Tip
And here's my second tip for you:
You know the feeling of tension in your lower back, especially first thing in the morning. These back exercises can help you bring back some suppleness to your muscles and increase your mobility while decreasing your back pain and discomfort.
Strengthening exercises should be performed after proper alignment and motion have been restored to your spine. This will not only make the exercises more effective, it will ensure that the exercises provide the proper support through a healthy, full range of motion. If you're unsure if your body is in proper alignment and is moving correctly, give our office a call and we'll be glad to help.
Disclaimer: Before doing any of these exercises for your sciatica or back pain, I recommend speaking with a healthcare professional. Depending on the cause and intensity of your pain, some of these exercises may not be recommended and can be harmful.
Lower Back Rotators: Lie flat on the back with knees bent and palms flat on the floor. Keep the back and hips flat on the floor throughout the exercise. Slowly lower your knees to one side, keeping them together. You should feel the muscles stretching from your shoulder down to your lower back. Once your knees are in the lowered position, don't hold it there! Rather, try to RELAX it there. The more you let gravity stretch by relaxing your legs, the better the stretch.
Trunk Extensions: Lie flat on your stomach with arms extended forward (for comfort, a small towel can be placed under the forehead, but do not extend the neck). Tighten your buttocks and lift one arm and the opposite leg a few inches off the floor. Hold for 5 seconds and lower. Keep the leg close to the floor and your neck stationary throughout the exercise. Do not raise your hips as you raise your legs. Alternate sides; take each repetition slowly, with controlled motions.
Back Extension: Lie face down on your stomach. Support your upper body with your hands. Slowly lift straight up and slowly lower. As you lift, keep your chin level. When executed correctly, your chin will slightly tuck into your chest. Avoid extending your neck back.
Quadruped Extension: Start on your hands and knees with your back straight. For stability, place your hand's shoulder width apart, and your knees separated hip-width apart. Lift one arm straight out in front of you with your head facing down. Find a focal point. Maintain a flat back. Lift and straighten the opposite leg behind you, and hold both arm and leg parallel to the floor for a count of 5. Lower slowly. Alternate sides. Do not arch your back at any time. That subtle shifting from right to left you are experiencing is normal. If you find it difficult to maintain your balance lift either one arm or one leg at a time. Shortly your balance will improve.
Third Tip
My third tip for you is to work with a skilled chiropractor. You see, you can try to manage this condition on your own, but it's far more effective to work with an expert who can help you heal the root cause and remove all the overwhelm and confusion you likely feel. This is what I do in my practice every day for my patients.
Advanced Chiropractic Methods can help you in a very unique way, one that addresses this deeper core issue in a way that no other approach really can. I can assure you that learning more about this approach is the best first step you can take to finally resolving this issue once and for all.
Chiropractic has been helping people with sciatica and back pain for over 100 years. As one would expect, there are many different chiropractic techniques that can be used.
When most people think of chiropractic treatment, they think of traditional chiropractic. Twisting and turning of your neck or low back, lying on your side and being turned into a pretzel, and of course the loud popping and cracking noises.
Never in the history of chiropractic care have chiropractors been able to provide the level of help and expertise that is available today. Many of the newest chiropractic techniques are actually safer, more comfortable, and more effective than ever before.
I use the latest Advanced Chiropractic Method called Prone Specific. This result-oriented treatment uses a gentle hands-on approach that is pleasant and comfortable. There is no 'popping' or uncomfortable twisting of your neck and back, so you can stay relaxed and focus on getting better.
It is very common for someone to say, "That was it??" after their first treatment, as they are shocked that they felt so little.
My point is this: Many of our patients were reluctant to make that first call, yet almost all of them have been beyond pleased with how gentle and effective the treatment has been for their healthcare needs. We want the same to happen for you!
I don't think it's in any way random that you made your way to this Blog Post. Let's get you back in control of your health. Call us today and schedule your consultation. (817) 514-1908.
